Abstract
Polyethylene resin
mainly includes low-density PE (LDPE), linear low-density PE (LLDPE),
high-density PE (HDPE) and middle-density PE (MDPE).
In 2001, the international (polyethylene) PE throughput was 65.74
million tons, actual output, 51.08 million tons, and consumption,
50.63 million tons. PE demand in areas except Africa, Asia, Oceania,
Latin America and Western Europe was smaller than productivity.
PE productivity and consumption increased the most in the Middle
East. The situation in Asia of demand being greater than supply
will change. In a few years, PE supply here will be larger than
demand. By 2006, global PE productivity will have reached 78.5 million
tons, and demand, 62.92 million tons. In areas of consumption structure,
foreign LDPE is mainly used in manufacturing thin film products
and injection molded items, and HDPE will mainly go into thin film
products, injection molded items and blow molded items.
China's PE industry has grown rapidly in recent years with a considerable
rise in productivity. However, because of the surging increase of
demand, China's PE domestic production situation (only 43% by the
end of 2001) had not changed much. A large part of the demand had
to be satisfied by import. In terms of consumption, 76% of the LDPE
was used in making thin film; the rest went to inject-molded items,
9.6%. HDPE mainly went into blow-molded items, 19.8%, thin film,
18.3%, monofilm, 17.9% and inject-molded items, 17%. This consumption
structure is not estimated to change much until 2005.
Because of the inactive global plastics market in 2001, large amounts
of plastic products flooded into China. The low sales of the main
downstream product, agricultural film resulted in the recession
and overall shrinking of domestic PE markets.
